Death Cab For Cutie is stopping in the city for the second time during their tour in promotion of their most recent album Narrow Stairs, which in my opinion is 10x better than their 2005 release Plans, which is essentially a single droning song for about an hour. In comparison Narrow Stairs, has a much darker and heavier feel than any of their previous albums, relying strongly on the use of a low bass and heavy piano sound. They will be performing in South Jersey on October 5th at The House of Blues in Atlantic City, and also performing in the city a day later at Radio City Music Hall. Tickets are running about $40-50 depending on seating.

Weezer is currently touring in promotion of The Red Album, their first good album since their 1996 release Pinkerton, widely regarded as their best album and a great influence on modern emo music. Appropriately they have tagged two modern, relatively emo acts to tour with them: Angels & Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club. They will be hitting Madison Square Garden on September 24. Tickets will probably be pretty expensive, assuming they have yet to sell out.

And for all you true indie fans who have any understanding of music history, three classic bands will be doing two (and only two) shows together on September 25 and 26, a Thursday and Friday. These three bands are Meat Puppets (Nirvana’s almost sole influence), Dinosaur Jr. (One of the biggest influences on modern alternative music and all of modern rock songwriting) and Built To Spill (Early 90’s indie band) performing their true adventure into jam music, Perfect From Now On. Tickets are $30 or $40 but sadly the Friday is already sold out so rush to get tickets for Thursday, this is a once in a lifetime chance.

Built To Spill : Perfect From Now On
Dinosaur Jr. : You’re Living All Over Me
Meat Puppets : Meat Puppets II
